Chang Xin, one of the silver medalists of 2023 Chambroad Outstanding Doctoral Award

Release time:2024-06-14 Hit:

Chang Xin, Ph.D. from Tianjin University, supervised by Professor Gong Jinlong.

Research Interests: Heterocatalysis and theoretical calculations, independent catalytic mechanism study, descriptor construction, experimental testing, material structure analysis, etc.

Achievements: Chang Xin decoupled and quantified electronic and geometrical alloy effects, constructed catalytic microenvironment descriptors "isolation". This breakthrough overcame the challenge of directly predicting propylene selectivity, which is typically hindered by the dual variables of desorption and dehydrogenation, establishing a new predictive criterion for alloy selectivity. She developed the "exponential work function" as a new descriptor for C-H bond activation, addressing the limitations of the d-band theory in predicting the activation capabilities across different active atoms. Additionally, she introduced a strategy of "bi-directional modulation of dominant adsorption configurations", enhancing reactant adsorption and facilitating product desorption, thereby theoretically guiding the creation of high performance catalysts.
